Erie County will host two racquet sports events this Saturday and Sunday, welcoming youth athletes and adult instructors as part of a busy spring sports weekend supported by the Erie Sports Commission.
The Level 5 Open: Boys 12s Level Tennis Open FLIGHTED is taking place this Saturday and Sunday at Westwood Racquet Club, featuring sanctioned U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) junior competition for boys ages 12 and under with the tournament consisting of flighted singles play. Players are travelling from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, and West Virginia to compete.
“We’re excited to welcome many talented young athletes to Westwood Racquet Club for the USTA Level 5 Boys 12 Open Singles, Mar. 21-22, 2026,” said Patrick Grab, owner of Westwood Racquet Club. “This tournament is an important opportunity for rising players to challenge themselves, build confidence and experience competitive match play in a positive, high-quality environment. With a wide range of players from neighboring states, events like this truly showcase the bright future of tennis.”
USTA Level 5 Tournaments are important because they offer young athletes the opportunity to earn national points, gain higher-level match experience and advance within the junior tennis development pathway, while also bringing visiting families to Erie County.
On Sunday, Erie County will also host a Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) certification event at Around the Post from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., drawing instructors and coaches for a full day of education and on-court training. The event focuses on professional instruction standards and certification, supporting the continued growth of pickleball at the local and regional levels.
PPR serves as the official education and certification partner of USA Pickleball, making the event a key opportunity for coaches seeking nationally recognized credentials.
