The Erie Sports Commission will host two youth events this weekend, including the Lights! Camera! Action! Cheer and Dance Extravaganza and Marsha Marsh Roundball Classic.
The Lights! Camera! Action! Cheer and Dance Extravaganza, hosted by Champion Cheer Central, will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Bayfront Convention Center. Saturday will feature all-star prep, novice, and exhibition performances, while Sunday will showcase all dance teams, along with school and recreation teams.
There will be 72 teams and 818 athletes competing over the course of the weekend, attempting to earn bids for the One Prime Finals and Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships held at the Erie Insurance Arena on April 11-12.

“Lights! Camera! Action! kicks off what is always an impactful series of events hosted in Erie by Champion Cheer Central,” said Mark Jeanneret, executive director of the Erie Sports Commission. “Collectively, these cheer competitions bring thousands of participants and spectators to our community annually, making a sizeable contribution to our economy.”
In January, Champion Cheer Central will host the Winter Beach Blast Cheer and Dance Championships on Jan. 10-11, and the Winter National Recreational Cheer and Dance Championships on Jan. 11.
Additionally, the 10th annual Marsha Marsh Roundball Classic will take place this Friday and Saturday at McDowell High School. The event is a four-team boys’ high school basketball showcase that traditionally marks the start of McDowell’s basketball season.
The tournament gets underway on Friday at 5 p.m. when West Allegheny takes on Grove City, followed at 6:30 p.m. with McDowell taking on Solon (Ohio). Saturday at 1 p.m., West Alleghany goes up against Solon while McDowell meets Grove City at 2:30 p.m.
