The region’s premier summer softball tradition is back as 814 Elite proudly hosts the 11th Annual Battle of Lake Erie Softball Tournament, taking place Friday through Sunday.
This year’s tournament is shaping up to be the largest and most competitive in the event’s history, with 100 teams from Ohio, New York and across Pennsylvania, traveling to compete on the shores of Lake Erie.
A full slate of softball fastpitch divisions will be featured, including 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U, ensuring a competitive and diverse field across all age groups.
The tournament will follow a three-game pool play format, followed by a single‑elimination bracket on Sunday.
Games begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and continue throughout Saturday and Sunday across all participating complexes: Harborcreek Community Park, Walnut Creek Middle School, Mercyhurst University, Penn State Behrend and McDowell High School.
A record of 258 games will be played at the completion of the event, drawing over 6,000 visitors to Erie County.
“This annual softball event continues to grow every year and has become one of Erie County’s leading sports tourism tournaments,” said Ben Huggler, interim executive director of the Erie Sports Commission. “We are excited to welcome athletes and spectators to Erie.”
Also taking place next Monday and Tuesday is the Lawrence Park Junior Invitational held at the Lawrence Park Golf Club. Hosted by Penn Ohio Junior Golf, this marquee event is for boys and girls ages 13-19. The invitational starts at 9 a.m. on Monday and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The invitational delivers a high‑level, well‑organized competitive experience. Following the opening round, players will attend a banquet featuring a round‑table discussion and Q&A with current and former college coaches and players, providing meaningful insight into collegiate golf and recruiting.
