The deadline for online registration for this year’s Barber Beast on the Bay is Tuesday, September 4 at www.BarberBeast.org. Late registration will be accepted with cash or credit card the morning of the event, Saturday, September 8, beginning at 6:30 a.m. at the Waldameer picnic groves.
More than 1,330 participants from 17 states and Canada have already registered for this year’s event, which is supported by more than 30 sponsors from the region.
The 10-mile obstacle course challenge begins at Beach 11 on Presque Isle State Park and ends at Waldameer Park on Peninsula Drive. Participants will face 30 natural and man-made obstacles that include sand moguls, vertical walls, inverted monkey bars, sand and pipe crawls and ¼ pipes. The final obstacle will take place in the Wave Pool at Waldameer Park.
Spectators are encouraged to visit any area on the course. Five Cheer Zones to encourage the participants will also be set up with volunteers from several local organizations including the Gannon University Ultimate Frisbee Club, the Community Blood Bank, the Mercyhurst Women’s Lacrosse Team, Villa Maria Academy Interact Club, Team United and Rebecca Mae.
In addition, an adapted course for adults with intellectual or physical disabilities will be held at Waldameer Park beginning at 10 a.m.
All proceeds from the event benefit services at the Barber National Institute for more than 6,200 children and adults with autism, intellectual disabilities or behavioral health challenges.
More information, including a map with the obstacles and activities, is available at www.BarberBeast.org.
