Race of Champions Weekend Marks 70th Annual Event Beginning Friday

Erie, Pa:  The Presque Isle Downs & Casino Race of Champions Weekend will mark its 70th annual event this weekend, with racing action set to get underway beginning Friday at Lake Erie Speedway.

The event is the second longest consecutive-running auto racing event in North America, second only to the Indianapolis 500. Six champions will be crowned during the three-day event. The schedule is as follows:

Friday, Sept. 25

4 p.m.  – Practice by Division
5:15 p.m. – Race of Champions Four Cylinder Dash Series
6:15 pm – Race of Champions Four Cylinder Dash Series Qualifying Races (6-laps)
TBD - Race of Champions Four Cylinder Dash Series B-Main (8-laps)
Final Session of Night - Race of Champions Four Cylinder Dash Series Feature (20-laps)

Saturday, Sept. 26

12 p.m. – Grandstands Open, Practice by Division (Two Rounds)
2:30 p.m. – Qualifying Races Begin
Immediately following the conclusion of qualifying: Late Model Feature “Rick Wylie” 48, Four Cylinder Dash Series Feature 2, Super Stock Series National Parts Peddler 40, TQ Midget Feature (20 laps)

Sunday, Sept. 27

11 a.m. – Grandstands Open, Practice by Division
1:15 p.m. – Qualifying Races Begin
Immediately following the conclusion of qualifying: TQ Midget Series Feature (Harry Macy Classic – 29 laps), Four Cylinder Dash Series Feature (Butch Palmer Classic – 32 laps), Street Stock Series Feature (30 laps)
3:30 p.m. (approximate) – Pre-race, cars begin to stage for 70th Annual Race of Champions 250
4 p.m. – Driver’s Introductions
4:20 p.m. – Command to Start Engines – 70th Annual Race of Champions 250 (250 laps)
