Kayak Anglers of Western PA will host two events in Erie, Pa. in 2019. The chapter will kick off its tournament season with its Bass on the Bay event Saturday, May 4, followed by the Presque Isle Bay Team Charity Event on Saturday, May 25. Both competitions will take place on Presque Isle Bay.
Anglers from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, New York, Virginia and Ontario are expected to compete.
Participants must fish from human-powered kayaks, single-person canoes or SUPs. The tournaments are catch-photograph-release events, with all fish measured and scored digitally. Anglers will submit photos of fish remotely via mobile device to be measured. Kayak Anglers utilizes kayakfishingseries.com for fish photo submissions.
Kayak Anglers operates to foster relationships in the kayak fishing community, with objectives including cleaning waterways and improving waterway access, giving to related charities and building the community through sustainable catch-photograph-release tournaments. The Western PA Chapter will host six tournaments in 2019.
All of the proceeds from the Charity Team Event will be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Erie.
Cash payouts will be presented to the top 10 percent of the overall field of anglers participating in the Bass on the Bay event on May 4, with a portion of each tournament entry donated to Project Healing Waters.
Anglers at both tournaments will launch at 6 a.m. from Presque Isle State Park, and will fish until 2 p.m. An awards ceremony for all participating anglers will begin at approximately 3 p.m. at Field & Stream, 2075 Interchange Rd. Erie, PA 16509.
