Formula DRIFT to Debut ‘BORDERLANDS’ at Lake Erie Speedway

Erie, Pa:  Lake Erie Speedway has been added to the2021 Formula DRIFT Championship Schedule. Its leading PRO Series, featuring 1000-hp competition cars,Formula DRIFT will make a stop in Erie County on July 9-10 as part of its 2021 PRO Championship Schedule, debuting its ‘Borderlands’ event for local fans at Lake Erie Speedway July 9-10.

Formula DRIFT is an extremely exciting sport for competitors and spectators alike. The North American series is recognized as the leading international drifting championship, attracting drivers from around the world. Established on the streets of Japan, drifting has evolved into a worldwide competitive sport that challenges the driver’s skill while demanding a great deal from their vehicle in terms of power and strength. Drifting is a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, with creating a loss of traction and plumes of tire smoke, while maintaining control through a number of turns. Each run in a Formula DRIFT event is judged on three criteria: Line, Angle and Style.

Up to 32 dDrivers will compete two at a timein pairs and go through multiple rounds. After the first round, the top 32 16 drivers with the highest score are placedprogress throughinto thea single-elimination tournament until a winner is crowned after the final round..

Formula DRIFT will make eight stops on its 2021 tour. Lake Erie Speedway is one of two new tracks on the schedule along with Englishtown Old Bridge Township Raceway Track Park in New Jersey. Additional events will take place in Atlanta, Orlando and St Louisand as well as Street of Long Beach and Irwindale Speedway, in California.

Single day and two-day tickets are on sale now. Admission is open to all ages, and free for children under 5. Current COVID-19 protocols will be enforced at the event, and face coverings will be required.
