Matching Funds up to $10,000 Available for Facility Improvements at Local Sporting Event Venues
Erie, Pa: The Erie Sports Commission (ESC) is pleased to announce its new Facility Matching Funds Program, aimed at providing funds to facilities capable of hosting sporting events, with the intent to continue to grow sports tourism in the region. The program will provide matching dollars for facility improvements, including new equipment purchases. A total of $10,000 is available for the program, through June 30.
Facilities that wish to apply for matching funds must be located within Erie County, Pa. and be available to host tournaments and events that draw out-of-town participants. Improvements facilitated with ESC matching funds should be completed with the intention of attracting new sporting events or growing existing events that can generate tourism, in support of the mission of the ESC.
Applications are being accepted now. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis, with the next review of applications set for March 29.
“The Erie Sports Commission relies on a multitude of great facilities in order to attract new events to the Erie region, so to us, it only made sense that we dedicate funds toward continued facility improvement,” said Mark Jeanneret, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “Any facility with an interest in hosting sporting events should apply. We are continuously looking at new opportunities and new events that are a good fit for our community, and I’m excited to offer this service to interested venues.”
“Sports tourism continues to be one of the most rapidly growing segments of the tourism market, and VisitErie is proud to have a division, the Erie Sports Commission, dedicated solely to bringing these events to Erie,” said John Oliver, President and CEO of VisitErie. “The ESC’s Facility Grant Program is a great way for our partners to make improvements to their properties and take advantage of this burgeoning market.”
Applicants may request matching funds in the amount of $500 to $5,000, with requests in excess of $5,000 considered in some circumstances. An application and a complete list of guidelines is available here.
