100% RAW Powerlifting World Championships to start Friday at Bayfront Convention Center
Erie, PA: The 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation is ready to host its World Championships at Erie’s Bayfront Convention Center for the first time this weekend. More than 300 pre-qualified lifters from around the world are registered to compete in the three day event.
The competing athletes represent 18 states and the District of Columbia, and six countries, including India, South Africa, Ireland and Sweden. All competitors are members of the 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation and have placed in the top five in a qualifying competition between 2014 and 2016.
Competitors are separated into men’s and women’s divisions where they will compete in various age and weight classes. The powerlifting event consists of squat, bench and deadlift events combined for a total amount of weight lifted. Divisions will include Open (25-34), Youth (11 and under), Teen (12-19), Junior (20-24), Sub-Master (35-39) and Master groups starting at 40 years old and increasing in 5 year increments. The competition will be urinalysis drug tested to ensure an even competition field.
The schedule is as follows:
Friday, October 7: Female World Championships – full power flights begin at 9 a.m.
Strict Curl World Championships – all lifters (men and women) begin at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, October 8: Lightweight Men World Championships – full power flights begin at 9 a.m.
Sunday, October 9: Heavyweight World Championships – full power flights begin at 9 a.m.
Established in 1999, 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation aims to showcase power lifters safely competing with no special support equipment or performance-enhancing drugs. The Federation has a presence in 13 countries worldwide, and its membership exceeds 10,000. The World Championships has previously been held in Las Vegas, Orlando and Virginia Beach, among others. Erie won the right to host the event in March 2016.
