Women’s Ice Hockey Championship to be held March 19-21 at Erie Insurance Arena
ERIE, Pa.: The Erie Sports Commission (ESC) and Mercyhurst University have today revealed the logo for the 2021 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four ®, to be hosted at the Erie Insurance Arena March 19-21.
The 2021 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four® marks 10 years since the event was last hosted in Erie, Pa. The 2011 event was also hosted by Mercyhurst University at the former Tullio Arena.
Four teams will compete in the national championship event. Two semifinal games will be contested on Friday, March 19 before the championship game on Sunday, March 21.
An Erie Local Organizing Committee (LOC) was formed in February 2020 to support event operations and marketing, as well as promote a positive student-athlete experience. Planning for the 2021 event is well underway, with LOC operations continuing for the next 10 months.
The Mercyhurst women’s ice hockey team is coming off a very successful 2019-20 season, finishing with a 21-10-5 overall record. The team won the College Hockey America Regular Season and Championship title, which saw them advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The 2019-20 season was ultimately cut short, due to public health concerns surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak.
Mercyhurst will return six of its top ten scorers from last season in 2020-21, including College Hockey America Championship goal scorers Rachel Marmen and Summer-Rae Dobson.
An announcement regarding ticket sales is forthcoming, with a projected on-sale date in fall 2020. Tournament information is available at https://hurstathletics.com/frozenfour.
