Two Hundred Anglers to Compete in RAM Truck Open Series Area 9 Championship Saturday
Erie, PA: The Erie Sports Commission (ESC) is pleased to announce that American Bass Anglers will bring its RAM Truck Open Series to Erie, Pa. in 2017, hosting the Area 9 Championships Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3. The two-day regional event will see up to 200 anglers compete from the national association’s Area 9, which encompasses New York and Ohio.
Boats will take off from Perry Monument on Presque Isle State Park at 6:45 a.m. both days, and return for weigh-ins at 3 p.m. on both days. The tournament will follow a pro-am format.
To participate in the championship event, anglers from Area 9 must have previously competed in three American Bass Anglers qualifying tournaments. The top 20 boaters and top 20 co-anglers will advance to compete in the National Championship on April 2-8, 2018 in Bossier City, La.
The first place angler will win $10,000 regardless of the number of entries. The prize increases based on the number of boaters and co-anglers. All Area Championship events are held on a neutral lake that anglers from both divisions – in this case, the New York Division and the Ohio Division – compete on.
American Bass Anglers does not have a Pennsylvania Division.
“Lake Erie is known for having great bass fishing, so we expect it to be a competitive tournament site,” said Evan Boutwell, National Marketing Director for American Bass Anglers, Inc. “Erie is the perfect site for this championship for a number of reasons: it is in the center of our Area 9 competition district, it offers fantastic amenities for anglers, and the support of the Erie Sports Commission has been crucial to our decision to host there. I look forward to establishing Erie as a home for American Bass Anglers competition for many years.”
“American Bass Anglers is a huge national governing body for the sport of fishing with a great reputation for producing quality tournaments, and we’re thrilled to host their Area 9 Championships in Erie for the first time,” said Ron Sertz, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “I think that competitors are going to find that Erie is the perfect location to spend a few days on the water.”
