National, Family-Friendly Events Highlight August in Erie Region

Erie Sports Commission Set to Host and Support Eight Events in the Erie Region in August

 Erie, PA: The Erie Sports Commission will wrap up its busy summer season by hosting and supporting eight events in August, including the highly-anticipated Nitro Circus Live, The Color Run, and The Lantern Fest.

Teams from Ohio, New York, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Canada will compete in Keystone Hoops Group Shoot the Rock Back to School Classic August 4-6. The tournament guarantees four games per team and is open to boys in grades 3-11 and girls in grades 4-11. Learn more at  

Lake Erie Duathlon is back for its third year on August 6. Participants will run a 5K, followed by a 20K bike ride and another 5K run. The event takes place at Presque Isle State Park, kicking off at 7 a.m. on Beach 11. Learn more at

The Lake Erie Cycle Fest will host its inaugural, four-day event August 10-13, kicking off with a slow roll ride at Perry Square. The event features daily rides of varying lengths for all riders, including the annual Tour de West County. Event proceeds will benefit EmergyCare, the YMCA of Greater Erie, and WQLN. Learn more at

The Color Run returns to Erie for its fourth year on August 12 with The Color Run Dream Tour, Presented by Lay’s®. The colorful 5K run will follow its traditional route in Downtown Erie, ending with a party in Perry Square. New this year is the Foam Zone, unicorn medal, and a purple Color Zone. Learn more at

North Coast Bass Association will host its two-day King of Bass Tournament at Presque Isle State Park on August 19-20. Anglers will catch largemouth bass only on Saturday, and either large or smallmouth bass on Sunday, with a $2,500 prize to the first place team. To learn more, visit

On August 20, Lake Erie Speedway will host Travis Pastrana’s Nitro Circus Live for the first time, showcasing an all-start international lineup of world-class action sports athletes in freestyle motocross, BMX, scooter, and inline, including multiple X Games medalists. Learn more at

On August 26, PA B.A.S.S. Nation will host an Open Buddy Tournament on Lake Erie. A first place prize of $10,000 goes to the team with the heaviest catch – based on a 100-boat field. Learn more here:

The Lantern Fest makes its second trip to Lake Erie Speedway on August 26. Spectators will come together for food, music and dancing before the lanterns go up after dark. Learn more and register at
