Popular 5K Event to be Held Saturday, September 29 at Whispering Woods Golf Course
Erie, Pa: The Erie Sports Commission is pleased to announce the return of one of the region’s most popular fun runs, as the Glow Erie 5K is set to be held Saturday, September 29 at Whispering Woods Golf Course. The event, hosted by United Service Corps, is in its fourth year after taking a hiatus in 2017.
More than 5,000 people have participated in the Glow Erie Run since 2014.
Beginning at dusk, runners and walkers will take off on a challenging music and light-infused course through the front nine holes of the picturesque Whispering Woods Golf Course in Millcreek, west of Erie, Pa. Participants are encouraged to help light up the event by adding LED lights, glow sticks and neon.
Registration for the timed event is open now. The 5K run is $25 and the 5K walk is $20 through July 6.
The family-friendly event is open to participants of all ages. Children ages 10 and younger may register to participate in the fun run for free with the purchase of an adult entry, but will not receive a t-shirt.
The 5K run will begin before dark at 6 p.m. and Glow Erie Walk will begin at 7 p.m. Both events will take place on the paved cart paths of the golf course, and will be dimly lit. A post-event party with music and concessions will be held following the conclusion of the races.
The event was first held in Erie in 2014, and serves as a fundraiser for United Service Corps, an Erie nonprofit organization that supports existing charities and churches in the community. Proceeds from the race will benefit its Giving Corps, a community service program to help people in the Erie area.
“This will be the fourth Glow Erie Fun Run, and each year we try to do something a little different,” said Angela Magee, Executive Director of United Service Corps. “We think this year at Whispering Woods will be especially challenging and fun. Each year, the creativity of the Glow Erie Fun Run participants blows me away. I’m so excited to see what they bring to the starting line this year.”
“I’m thrilled that Angela and the United Service Corps have chosen to bring back the Glow Erie Fun Run in 2018, as it has been an extremely popular community event since its inception,” said Ron Sertz, Executive Director of the Erie Sports Commission. “Moving the event to the fall will enhance the participant experience by allowing runners to truly glow. This is a great way to have fun with the family and support an Erie-based cause.”
