Special Olympics Bowling Western Sectional
The Special Olympics PA Western Bowling Sectional returns to Eastway Lanes, Westway Lanes, and Greengarden Lanes on March 17, 2018. Tournament organizers expect up to 325 athletes from all of the western counties of Pennsylvania to attend.
Winners of the tenpin tournament will have the chance to move on to the Special Olympics Pennsylvania State Summer Games in State College, Pa.
The events are divided into three categories: individual, doubles and team bowling. Individual bowling includes singles, ramp unassisted bowl and ramp assisted bowl. Doubles and team bowling include male, female, mixed, unified sports male, unified sports female and unified sports mixed.
Singles competition will be held at Eastway Lanes and Westway Lanes, while Greengarden Lanes will see Teams, Doubles and Ramp events.
Athletes are grouped based on their age, gender and ability to create a fair playing field. Each competitor is awarded for his or her performance with a gold, silver or bronze medal for first through third place or a ribbon for fourth through eighth place.
Opening Ceremonies for the tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 at all locations. Competition will follow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Awards will be presented from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at all locations, and Closing Ceremonies will begin at 4:10 p.m.
