Event Support

Grants are available for tourism or sports-related organizations to help promote events to potential visitors from outside Erie, in the form of teams, participants, spectators, or accompanying family members. It is designed to help support and enhance organizations in attracting sports opportunities that meet one or more of the following criteria.

  1. Generate significant overnight hotel visitation from out-of-area participants and spectators.
  2. Generate regional and/or national media exposure for Erie County.
  3. Increase out-of-area visitor spending.

The goal of the grant is to attract high quality amateur sporting events, competitions, conferences, and meetings that, in turn, advance and promote year-round tourism, economic impact and quality of life in Erie County through sport.

Sports Tourism Grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 are awarded at the total discretion of the committee. These grants are not sponsorships. Sports Tourism Grants are not to be used as prize money, to purchase awards, fund social or hospitality gatherings at events, purchase local advertising or any other area not directly related to attracting visitors to the Erie area.
